A Christmas Message | A Personal Post (Part 1 of 2)

Like most people, I love this time of year. I love the twinkling lights. I love the decorations. Gifts can be nice. Music is glorious.

But there are even better things this time of year. The most obvious is the birth of our Savior. Being with family. And nostalgia. Oh, remembering what it was like to be a child at Christmas. The feeling that at any moment something remarkable could happen.

Seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child is something to behold. It’s a time to dream big. Not just for bigger and better toys, but for peace, for kindness, for caring. It’s a time we sing about the ills of the world, but know that still, there is hope.

One of my favorite Christmas carols, O Holy Night explains the contrast of this time so well:

The Pain

  • Long lay the world in sin and error pining
  • The weary world
  • Oppression
  • Chains
  • Slave

The Joy

  • A thrill of hope
  • A new and glorious mourn
  • The soul felt its worth
  • His gospel is Peace
  • He taught us to love one another

This is a dark time, illuminated by holy light.  May we all fall to our knees, like children, in awe.

I claim 2015, as the second busiest year of my life (1st being the year we got married). With moving, a DIY home remodel and the birth of our daughter Norah, there just wasn’t enough time to get out a Christmas card this year (or sadly a birth announcement). I know this is a poor substitute for a printed card, but this year, this will have to do. Here are some of our very favorite moments from 2015 (an assortment of camera and iPhone pics). A very Merry Christmas to all those we love, near and far.

Blessings from our family to yours,

Erin, Brian, Asa and Norah
